The Labour Party
The development of a portal for the Labour Party to engage party members
We developed a portal for the Labour Party to engage party members and the general public in policy debate in the run up to the 2015 General Election.
The site features public and private forums, with functionality to allow registered users to submit proposed amendments to policies and to comment on others’ proposed submissions.
To develop a new web platform for the Labour Party
SolutionThe system allows new policy ideas to be uploaded and Party members and the public to make submissions on specific policies, and to comment on other users’ submissions. Once the submission process was complete, a new document was drafted to propose new party policy, which was then posted on the site. At this point users can once again make comments, and this information was analysed to inform future policy. We worked with the client’s membership system supplier to debug and test an API, and interfaced with the membership data to build the login and permissions system for the policy hub. The resulting solution polls the membership database to establish the membership status and position of individual members, in order to give them access to the appropriate levels of access on the site. Certain user groups were given enhanced permissions on the site and the ability to search and filter data in a different way to regular users.
